I apologize up front for any rambling, whining or totally disconnected thoughts that may end up on this post. I've had so much stuff (would like to use a stronger word here, so insert any word that you can conjure up) going on this past week.
We have moved into our cozy little 1300 sq ft. apartment. Now, I know some of you out there might wonder what's wrong with that. Well, we just left a 4300 sq ft. house and trying to get rid of all the accumulated stuff that didn't fit in 3000 less sq ft has been challenging. We unloaded what we could on our children. But that barely made a dent. After a very successful moving sale, last Saturday, the remaining stuff seemed a little more manageable.
My husband and poor, slave labor, youngest son hauled stuff to a storage unit today. My previous experience of having things in storage leads me to believe that when this stuff is unearthed from storage in the future, I'll wonder "Why on earth did we think this was important stuff??!!??" But my husband just can't seem to let go of all his fishing, hiking, camping, sporting goods equipment that he only uses about once a year or less. I'm proud to say that most of the stuff that went to storage is his stuff.
Two trips to D.I. later, and I'm only left with a GAS dryer (Anyone interested?) and the impossible to unload quilting frame system. In one last desperate attempt to find these two items a permanent place, I've re-posted on craigslist and ksl.com. I have no idea what I'll do with them if someone doesn't step up and buy them. I'd almost give them away just so I don't have to deal with them anymore. Erg.
I'm sitting here waiting for the cable guy - again. This is the "fun" part of moving. The cable was set up last week much to my husband's delight. But to his dissatisfaction, the picture isn't up to snuff and it takes two remotes to work everything. So, cable guy is on his way. One last little frustration will soon be out of the way.
There is an upside to all this. I've lost 9 pounds in 7 days. I wouldn't recommend my activities of the past week as a sure fire weight loss program for anyone. It's been awful, stressful, sweaty, and really no fun at all.
The apartment feels like home - mainly because we lived in this same complex three years ago (for four years) while searching for a house and said house turned out to only be a three year stay. We have a great view of the city from our 7th floor apartment. It's the view that Ms. Nimby demanded that she should have from her back deck. So there's a little justice.
I'll finish up with the last of the cleaning at the house tonight. And then I'm done. I hope the new owners enjoy living downhill from the Nimbys. I won't miss them AT ALL!! There's more to tell about the Nimbys, but that is an entirely different post.
And another upside to moving - when talking to our internet provider about moving our service, the customer service guy says "Wow, you don't have broadband and your internet speed is just one step above dial up. I can upgrade you at no additional charge." My kids have been complaining for years that our computer was slow. I never bothered to check on it. So, now with my free upgrade, I'm whizzing and down loading my way through the internet. It has taken a little getting used to.
Yay! Cable guy showed up, on time, as promised. There should be no complaints from my husband about the picture, remote usage or anything else on his television. My brother will appreciate that as well. The problematic TV is in the "Man Den/Guest Room".
Husband and I have designated rooms in this apartment. There's the joint usage living room/kitchen area and master bedroom/bath. We also have "His" room and "Her" room. It's a little deja vu. His parents lived in this same complex many years ago. They had His and Her rooms. But, please, just don't call us Carol and Bob.
Welcome to my musings, ramblings and thoughts. Interesting to some - boring to others.

Mother's Day 2008
A Mother's Thoughts on Mother's Day:
It's all over - even the shouting. My kids have packed up their kids and headed home. The two youngest, who are now roommates in their own apartment, are gone as well. Some how, I feel a little like my mother in law must have felt on the Sunday evenings after all of her kids left with all of their kids. We had alot of Sunday evenings at Grandma Buies. And now, I'm the Grandma Buie for my grandchildren.
Last year, a new Mother's Day tradition was started by the kids...."Fiesta de Madre". Last year, it was tacos, guacamole, salsa, dip, fruit and a pinata. It was a big success. This year there was no pinata. The main organizers of last year's event spent yesterday moving into their apartment. They didn't have time to hunt down a pinata. Maybe next year.
The last three Mother's Days have been a little different. In 2006, my youngest daughter graduated from college. It was the best Mother's Day present. In 2007 and 2008, we have been attending a young single adult ward so we've missed out on the traditional Mother's Day songs from the Primary kids and the potted plant given out in Sacrament meeting. Next year, I think I'll have to at least go to Annie's ward to see/hear Aidan sing in his first Mother's Day songs in Sacrament meeting.
For Mother's Day gifts, I got a basket of some of my favorite things from Annie, Kelly and Patrick. I know that they all know about my love for chocolate and mint, particularly York Peppermint Patties. But I was surprised that at least one of them knew about my love of Boston Baked Beans. Rachelle, Rob and kids gave me some shampoo, conditioner and body cream in my favorite scent from Bath and Body Works. Patrick commented that his new girlfriend also loves the same scent. He says it's a little weird that his girlfriend smells like his mother.
Conor and Katie weren't with us this year. It's been one week since their daughter, Leila, was born. They're exhausted from the newborn-ness and wanted to spend the day at home. We missed them. We only have about a month or so to get to know Leila and hang out with Chas as their parents will be moving to Denver. Conor has been accepted to law school in Denver. Congratulations, Conor!
It's been a nice day. I've been blessed with some great kids who have become wonderful adults.

Changes and Adjustments
My daughter, her husband and two small children moved into their own apartment today. The move went pretty smoothly for them, I think. At least they will be able to spend their first night in their new home with a kitchen kind of organized, beds made and bathroom stuff located. They still have a lot of boxes and stuff to deal with. It will probably take them awhile to find a place for everything.
Now our home is very quiet - the quietest its been since we moved in three years ago. When we bought this home, we second guessed ourselves. It seemed like more space than we needed what with only my husband and I and our youngest son to fill up five bedrooms. But the house was quickly filled up with a daughter-in-law to be who lived with us for several months before marrying our older son. Before we knew it, our daughter and her husband and one child moved in with us. After that, our youngest daughter graduated from college out of state and moved back home. What was a huge house with lots of room became a home with every bedroom filled. Our three car garage was filled, plus three cars parked in the driveway or on the street.
Tonight, my husband, son and I are living in a very different environment. We have three empty bedrooms. Two baths that probably won't be used much. No kiddie stuff in the family room or kitchen. We have no cars parked in the driveway or on the street.
It's weird. But we'll adjust.
P.S. The answer is NO! You can't move in!

Newest Grandchild
On August 25 at about 5:30 pm, we got a phone call from our pregnant daughter-in-law. "I'm in the hospital. They just checked me in." About 1/2 hour later, our son calls. "Wife is in the hospital." We said, "We know, she called us." Son says - "What, she called you before she called me??" He was at work when his wife drove herself to the hospital! She didn't want to bother her husband because they had had several false alarms. He made it in time for the delivery of our newest granddaughter. Big sister and brother are excited to have a little sister.

This is my life....
Some of you have brought to my attention that the purpose of having a blog is to post something other than lists. Since I started this blog over 10 days ago, my life has been something a little different than planned. I think another list is in order to kind of justify why there hasn't been any post since Aug 5.
1. Oldest daughter came home from OB appointment and told me that she was suppose to "lie low" for the duration of her pregnancy - about five weeks left. So, my grandma duties have increased helping to take care of a 2 year old, etc.
2. Youngest daughter was in the hospital for various reasons over the course of 6 days. One was for a planned procedure that was very difficult for her (see her Blog for details). The 2nd stay was a result of an ER visit.
3. Second son's wife had her tonsils out and they needed help from me with their 15 month old for a morning - which just happened to be the same day that daughter #2 had a radiology test done.
4. Youngest son had a doctor' appointment and will be having minor surgery this week.
It's been kind of crazy. I've also realized if I was 15 to 20 years younger, I would have handled all this without too much problem or the exhaustion that came from days taking care of grandkids, family members, cooking, cleaning and all that stuff. I know why you have kids while you are young!
If any one of the above listed events had not have happened practically on top of each other, I may have posted to the blog. But just about every time I sat down to post something new, my brain was mush and I'm pretty sure that what ever I wrote would have been pretty much incoherent ramblings.
